Last week a door slammed on my finger...

I had my hand on the wall, my finger barely wrapped around the edge of a door frame, when the wind pulled the door shut.

Hard.

I was immediately on the floor then running up the stairs to view the bloody mess that was previously my perfect, intact middle finger.

I didn’t pass out, but it seemed like a possibility at one point.

My boyfriend noticed it too and stood behind me with his arms wrapped around me, just in case.

We rushed to the urgent care where I got 7 stitches and a lot of glue.

Somehow, no bones broke, just my skin.

I will spare you the images of my naked finger.

I will spare you the images of my naked finger.

All last week I would have flashes of the incident out of nowhere and my body would shudder. I have injured myself before but nothing so visually horrific.

It’s been just over a week and my finger still looks horrifying, but it is healing up.

This made me reflect on a few things …

  1. Injuries affect so much more than just the actual injury site.

I know, this is not news, but it is worth remembering. Even though my finger was the only actual damage from the incident, everything hurts. My back is sore, my shoulder and neck are killing me and I’m stressed.

  2. Trauma responses in the body and mind are very real and massage can help to return to a place of calm and safety that the body and mind are desperately needing.

  3. Healing takes time and all the responses in between are ok.

So, whatever you may be dealing with, massage can help.

At THE SPACE you can have time to…

  • be off your phone and the constant pressures of life pulling you.

  • feel your body relax

  • tune into your breathing

  • allow your body and mind to process all the things you are experiencing in life right now.

  • reduce any physical pain you may be experiencing while also helping you to tune into and get to know your own body in a different way.

If you have been trying to book, you may have noticed that’s not as easy as it once was. We are currently booked out several weeks in advance. I was intending to open up some more time on my schedule but that will have to wait for now. I will continue with my usual schedule starting next week so if you are on the books, you don’t have to worry.

When I feel confident I can move my hand the way I want to, I will add some times Wednesday mornings to help get more people in.

Until then, please let me know by text or email if you would like to get on the waitlist!
